Since the body of your camera is open, you are of course at risk for dust and debris. When I free lens I use my old body and old lenses that I wouldn't or couldn't otherwise use. I also try to seal, as best I can, the gap between the lens and body with my hand and carefully position the lens without beating it against the body. I would never free lens with my main body or lenses though. It's a fun technique but not worth damaging your good equipment. I hope that helps :)
