Day 359 Merry Christmas

... what she didn't know as she lay sleeping, was that right below her, in his work room, Santa's master craftsman (dad) was building her the rocking horse of her dreams.  He worked for days, tirelessly, around the clock to make her dream come true, a finer elf cannot be found.  It was finished, except the finish and little leather ears, at 4am this morning and this little princess woke to find it at 5am.

She says it is the best Christmas ever.  Quite a complement from someone all of three years old...

Day 358 Christmas Eve

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse...  This little angel left out milk and cookies for Santa by the tree, then grabbed herself a pillow and a cozy blankie.  As her eyes started to close and with the tiniest smile, she whispered, "I want a rocking horse.  I want a rocking horse.  Ohhhhh Santa (she sighed), I want a rocking horse." then drifted off to sleep...

Day 355 Huggies

Little huggy bears and a huggy bunny that I made for the kids.  I have one more to make with black eyes and a black scarf and each of my kids will have one.  It started with just the top one for Lil' Miss but they have strangely won over the hearts of the oldest 3 as well lol!

Day 354 Stockings

I whipped up some of these sweet little stockings last night and have had fun shopping for goodies to fill them today.  I think they'll make cute surprises this weekend.

Day 349 Snow Queen

Ok, I'll admit it, these are from yesterday evening, a few hours from crossing into today.  In my defense, I may not have time to touch the camera today.  I have massive shopping, candy making and baking to do.  I have 10 days until Christmas and I have never in my life been so behind.  Now, I will probably, probably take photos today of candy or cookies or something later today, but in the off chance that I actually miss today I'm calling this good lol!

Day 337 Butter Cookies

Butter Cookies

1 cup of butter softened
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups of sifted all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Cream butter until light, gradually add sugar, beating well.  Add the eggs one at a time beating well after each egg.  Stir in vanilla.  Sift together flour, baking soda and salt, add to creamed mixture.  Chill until firm and workable.
On a lightly floured surface roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out desired shapes.  Lil' Miss recommends stars and flowers :)  Place on a greased baking sheet.  Lil' Miss says to add sprinkles at this point, pink ones of course.  It's ok if you have other colors too, but you have to have pink otherwise the cookies just aren't right.  Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.  Makes 3-4 dozen cookies.

I would love to show you the finished product but... they're gone... already.  We only make butter cookies twice a year, once in the spring and once before Christmas so they go as fast as they come out of the oven.

Day 324 The Holly and the Ivy

Lo, how a Rose e'er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse's lineage coming
By ancient sibyls sung

A rose doth bear a flower
All in the cold midwinter
And at the midnight hour

And he waits for her to find
The heart she left behind
And he prays she'll find her way
To be his bride someday

Of all the trees in the wood
Holly wants the Rose
Holly and the Ivy
When they are both full grown
Of all the trees in the wood
Holly bears the crown
Holly and the Ivy
The running of the deer
For his Rose to bloom
Holly waits every year

He waits for who to find
The heart she left behind
He prays she'll find her way
To be his bride someday

Day 321 The amazing sky and other things you wont see today...

It was an incredible sky today with shades of blue and purple tinged with orange, the kind of sky that makes the now bare branches on the trees glow as if charged with current.  I was amazed.  I grabbed Cassandra (my camera) and started for the door just in time for the hail to come.  Hail!  Not on Cassandra, oh no!  Then the sky turned a deep purple, nearly black and my family and I watched for an unseasonable tornado that, by the way, never arrived.  Instead the hail turned to rain and the sun tried really hard to break through the clouds so, I looked for a rainbow.  Yeah, that didn't come to be either.  Now, I did try to capture the brilliance from the window, really I did, but it was not to be unless there is an interest in seeing hail on Sadie (my car), or hail in the grass below my living room window, or a sad, pathetic really, attempt to capture the rain that looks like a very blurry (thank you rain soaked window) gray day.  No?  I thought not.  So, today, for a photo we have Juniper.  Thank heavens for evergreens!

So, in review:
camera~ Cassandra
car~ Sadie
rain soaked window~ bad, very very bad
Go Juniper!
